10 Key Fixes That Will Immediately Upgrade Your Social Media Presence
Maintaining a thriving social media presence can get taxing. There are so many platforms to create content for, engage with audiences on and build marketing strategies for.
With the constant influx of new posts, new topics and things to wipe off your checklist, it’s easy to miss a few things.
And before you know it, your social media numbers have gone down. The client isn’t happy, you certainly aren’t happy either.
If only there was something that you could do quickly to get all those profiles in working order again.
Luckily, there is – and that’s exactly what we are going to talk about today. Small fixes that take an hour or less to implement but have wide ranging implications for your audience.
1. Make sure your image sizes are correct.
Every social network has a different layout, which means that different image sizes look better depending upon which network you are posting to.
You also have to consider how the audience is going to view your images. Are they on a platform where it will just show up as a small part of their feed? Or do they have the capability to zoom and expand it? Will they be viewing on mobile or desktop?
If you’re posting a cover photo to Facebook, the recommended resolution is 828 * 465 pixels. However, the cover photo dimensions on LinkedIn are 974 * 330. So, you can’t use the same image for both networks.
2. Use a consistent profile image across all your platforms.
If you’re a brand, you should have your thematic consistent across all platforms.
Your profile image is a big part of your brand. Login to each of your networks to ensure that you are using the same image.
This improves the stickiness of your brand and makes it easier for people to recognize your content in their feeds on different networks.
3. Posting handles should remain consistent.
We get it – maybe there’s a cool username available on Instagram that wasn’t available when you signed up for Facebook. However, as a brand you need to make sure that your handles are consistent too.
If people get used to a certain username, they expect it to show up as the same across all networks. Having a consistent handle across platforms also makes it easier for people who follow you on one platform to find and follow you on others.
4. Untag yourself from inappropriate content.
Tags are great for engaging fans and recognizing content that might be relevant to you. However, if you are tagging too many people or worse – too many people are tagging you, it can quickly diminish your brand equity.
You need to ensure that your photo tagging settings are set so that you can review each tag and approve it. Otherwise, people might click over to the “Photos of you” section to find your brand tagged in every manner of spam, offensive or controversial post.
5. Be more discoverable for searchers.
To give yourself the best chance of being found by your prospects, you need to make sure you have the appropriate keywords present in your profile.
If your niche is fashion, for example, you will need to have the words “apparel”, “designer wear” or other relevant keywords in your bio, description or skills sections.
6. Have a completely filled in profile.
Social media networks allow you a wide set of areas to fill your information into, all of which have their own merits. LinkedIn and Facebook, for example, allow businesses to mention a whole host of information about themselves to help prospects make buying decisions.
Make sure you mention the name and nature of your business, and what people who follow you can expect in terms of content. If appropriate, you can include a call-to-action for what they should do after they visit your profile.
7. Cross promote your social profiles.
Whenever possible, mention other platforms that you are active on a social network.
For example, say a tweet of yours is doing really well and getting a lot of retweets. You can take a screenshot of the tweet that shows the metrics and post it to your Facebook and Instagram asking people to follow you on Twitter.
LinkedIn allows you to mention your Twitter in your profile. Facebook allows you multiple website fields.
8. Make sure your links work.
It goes without saying, but make sure none of your links are entered improperly or lead to 404 pages.
9. Build trust with your audience upfront.
Most social platforms allow you to showcase user reviews and testimonials. Ask for these and put up as many as you can so new visitors can see what people are saying about your business.
10. Pin your best content front and center.
On platforms like Instagram, you have the ability to use Highlights to make a collection of your best content to show people right away when they visit your profile.
Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook allow pinned posts. Use them to show the new visitors how good you are!
